Let's get you started!

connect

Students will be using Artsonia to submit all project work and track mastery of compositional growth as well as our unit objectives throughout this year!  Students will also be responsible for checking their course website for class prep--a college-ready skill--, and the occasional assignment.

Parents can interact with their students and Brays Oaks Art Department programming by engaging in our Parent Portal.  Make a financial contribution, schedule a conference with a teacher, donate time as a bid trip chaperone or art show liaison, even read about how student engagement in art class greatly influences SAT scores, heightened self awareness, and advanced problem solving skillsets in teens: the possibilities are endless on The Studio!

supply

In order to effectively engage in class, students are required to provide some supplies.  All students, regardless of course level, must provide an 5.5" x 8" hardbound sketchbook as well as a pencil. All other possible supplies are listed as follows, and students will be notified by the teacher with adequate time to provide as requested:

Art 1 students are typically expected to provide several found objects, such as cardboard, bottles, newspaper, etc. Students may provide further supplies if interested in higher quality materials than provided in class.

Art 2 students should have access to a variety of mixed media (such as watercolor, a Taklon brush set, pastels, or other media of interest), a portfolio folder, and found objects.

AP students are exclusively responsible for providing their own supplies unless arrangements are proactively made with teacher.

engage

Students should come to class everyday prepared to reach outside of their comfort zone.  Many students have not interacted with art before entering the Brays Oaks Art Studio and our curriculum is designed with those students in mind. We believe, and our students are charged to adopt the belief, that everyone can create art.

To make this belief come true, classes consist of classroom critiques, one-on-one personalized instruction, relevant connections to college skills and future student career aspirations, and dynamic assignments meant to inspire creativity, provoke higher order thinking, and build problem solving skills.

Out of the classroom, students are invited to engage in bid trips, apply for scholarship and summer opportunities, and build their college resume through participation in the many competitions and art shows offered over the year.
